Q: So many terms - performance coaching, corporate coaching, personal development coaching, business life coaching, executive coaching and employee coaching - what's the difference?
A: Let's keep it simple. StraughanConsulting provides one-to-one life coaching services to businesses who have identified individuals who need support in reaching their potential both professionally and personally. In our book, the terms mean the same, describing how we help clients meet challenges and explore the opportunities.
Q: Does StraughanConsulting only provide life coaching services to businesses?
A: StraughanConsulting's area of expertise is to provide life coaching for business clients but we can provide a list of associates who provide personal life coaching.
Q: How does the life coaching process work?
A: The coach provides the sounding board and trusting environment for the client to discuss areas to address and the ideal outcomes. The client has the answers - we help identify them. We come to your business premises or somewhere off site if preferred. Everything is discussed in confidence. We follow up with monitor-and-review sessions to discuss progress.
Q: Does StraughanConsulting give business advice?
A: That is not our role. We help clients empower themselves to address aspects of their personal and professional lives. Our business life coaching is not about advising organisations or their people what to do.
Q: What's good about the StraughanConsulting performance coaching services?
A:StraughanConsulting uses a systematic approach to help individuals find fulfilment in their personal and professional lives which are inextricably linked. We get clients addressing areas of concern and exploring the possibilities.
Q: What's involved in your coaching?
A:There's an early discussion about expectations and the role of a coach followed by a session during which the client identifies areas to address and a process for achieving goals. Sometimes, the client unaware of the issue but we help get to the root of the matter. We follow this with one, two or more monitor-and-review sessions. Additional email and phone personal development coaching are available but we want the client to have the tools and techniques for moving on.
Q. Do you walk the talk and use a coach yourself?
A. Yes. The Association for Coaching encourages members to participate in co-coaching sessions, gaining new perspectives and developing new techniques. This enables us to understand the client perspective.
Q: Is it the same as mentoring?
A: No. A life coach does not advise or instruct but acts as a sounding board or catalyst, relying on effective questioning. Coaching is a tool for enabling clients to realise their potential. The client is encouraged to consider all aspects of their life and identify areas to change. The focus is not on the past but on the desired outcomes and the actions needed.
Q: What level of individual does StraughanConsulting work with?
A: Executives, managers and non-managers. Every individual faces challenges and opportunities. We work with clients so they can empower themselves to create the life they want.Our executive and employee coaching is specifically designed to address the needs of most clients.

Q: What are your prices for business life coaching/corporate coaching/executive coaching/employee coaching services?
A: These are available on request.
Q: Which geographical areas do you cover?
A: The StraughanConsulting core regions are Yorkshire and the North East though we travel further depending on business client needs. It's little surprise that most of our clients come from Bradford, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, York and surrounding areas as well as parts of the North East.
Q: What services do you provide as well life coaching?
A: Strategic services in the areas of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and PR and communications.
